5-Lug vs. 6-Lug: How to Buy the Right Wheels for Your 2019+ RAM 1500 Classic
Share
You go to buy wheels for your 2021 RAM 1500.
You filter by "2021 RAM 1500" on a website.
You see a set of awesome Fuel Rebels. You click buy.
They arrive. You take a wheel off your truck.
And they don't fit.
Your truck has 5 studs. The new wheel has 6 holes.
What happened?
You fell victim to the "Classic vs. New Body" confusion.
From 2019 to 2024, RAM produced two trucks simultaneously:
- The RAM 1500 Classic (DS): The older body style. Uses 5 Lugs (5x139.7).
- The New RAM 1500 (DT): The redesigned body style. Uses 6 Lugs (6x139.7).
If you have a Classic, you must shop for 2009–2018 wheels, regardless of the year on your registration.
In this guide, we break down the bolt patterns, hub bores, and the critical Offset Math you need to clear 35-inch tires without rubbing your control arms.

Frequently Asked Questions (Wheels)
I have a 2021 RAM 1500. Will these fit?
Only if it is the "Classic" model.
RAM sold two body styles at the same time from 2019 to 2024.
- Classic (DS): Has 5 Lug Nuts. Yes, these fit.
- New Body (DT): Has 6 Lug Nuts. No, these will not fit.
- Please count your lug nuts before ordering.
Do I need Hub Centric Rings?
Recommended. The RAM 1500 hub bore is 77.8mm. Many aftermarket wheels are bored larger (e.g., 87mm or 106mm) to fit multiple vehicles. While the lug nuts will center the wheel ("lug centric"), installing Hub Rings fills the gap and ensures a vibration-free ride at highway speeds.
Will 35-inch tires fit with 0mm offset wheels?
With a Leveling Kit, yes.
If you have a 2.1" or 2.5" front level (like Bilsteins), a 0mm offset wheel with a 35x12.50R20 tire is the "Golden Ticket" fitment. It pushes the tire away from the control arm but doesn't push it out so far that it smashes the front bumper when turning. You may need to trim a small piece of plastic liner, but it generally fits well.
Stop the rub. Fix the stance.
