BAKFlip MX4 vs. Ultra Flex: The Battle of the F-150 Hard Covers
Share
For 2021–2025 Ford F-150 owners, the search for a bed cover usually ends in a showdown between two heavyweights: The BAKFlip MX4 and the UnderCover Ultra Flex.
Both are premium "Hard Folding" covers. Both offer aluminum or composite panels that are knife-proof. Both allow you to fold the cover all the way up against the cab to haul a couch or dirt bike. And both allow the Power Tailgate to function normally.
So, which one belongs on your truck?
The difference comes down to the details: the finish (Matte Aluminum vs. Carpeted Underside), the warranty, and how they handle the dreaded "Tailgate Seal" issue. In this guide, we break down the pros and cons of the top hard folding covers to help you decide which one is right for your build.

Frequently Asked Questions (Hard Folding Covers)
Can I drive with the cover folded up?
Yes. Premium hard folding covers include "Prop Rods" that secure the panels safely against the back of the cab. This allows you to drive at highway speeds with the bed fully open to haul tall cargo like appliances or ATVs.
Is it waterproof?
Highly Water Resistant. Hard folding covers use EPDM rubber hinges and drain tubes to channel water out of the bed. While no folding cover is 100% submersible (a little water may drip in at the tailgate during a car wash), they keep 99% of the weather out.
Does it block the Pro Power Onboard outlets?
No. The Pro Power panel is recessed into the side of the bed wall. The cover rails sit high up near the bed cap. There is plenty of clearance to plug in your cords and run them out under the tailgate seal while the cover is locked.
