Will a roof rack leak water into my cab?
No.
- Clamp-On Racks: The metal clips are thin and rubber-coated. They slip between the door frame and the rubber weather seal. The door closes tight over them, maintaining the factory waterproof seal.
- Drill-In Racks: These use expansion nuts (rivnuts) and heavy silicone sealant (provided in the kit). If installed correctly, they are watertight.
Can I put a rooftop tent (RTT) on clamp-on bars?
Ideally, No. While some high-end clamp systems claim to support a tent, the dynamic weight (bouncing while driving) and static weight (you + tent + sleeping) puts massive stress on the aluminum door jambs. For RTTs, we strongly recommend a Drill-In Platform Rack or a Bed Rack.
How much wind noise should I expect?
Any object on your roof creates noise.
- Aero Bars (Ovals): Minimal noise. Often barely noticeable with the windows up.
- Square Bars: Loud humming/whistling. You will likely need a fairing (wind deflector).
- Platform Racks: Usually come with a front wind deflector to push air over the rack, keeping it relatively quiet.
