Ford Performance vs. COBB: Which Bronco Tune is Right for You?
Share
The 2.3L and 2.7L EcoBoost engines in the 6th Gen Ford Bronco are absolute torque monsters, but you’d never know it straight from the factory. Ford intentionally dialed back the boost to meet strict fuel economy and emissions standards.
If you just bolted on a heavy set of 35-inch tires and beadlock wheels, you are probably feeling that sluggish factory tune right now. Your speedometer is off, your transmission is shifting into 8th gear way too early, and the truck just feels heavy.
You need a tune. But which one?
When shopping for premium programmers, Bronco owners are faced with the ultimate showdown: The official Ford Performance ProCal versus the legendary COBB Tuning Accessport V3.
Do you want the ultimate peace of mind? The Ford Performance ProCal delivers a massive bump in mid-range torque, fixes your speedometer, and—if installed by an ASE tech—actually retains a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.
Or are you a hardcore enthusiast? The COBB Accessport mounts to your dash, displays live boost gauges, and allows you to load custom, highly aggressive maps for maximum horsepower.
In this guide, we break down the exact performance gains, the installation process, and the warranty implications of the industry's two best tuning platforms to help you wake up your EcoBoost.

Frequently Asked Questions (Tuners)
Why does my Bronco feel slow after adding a lift kit and 35-inch tires?
Rotational mass and incorrect gearing.
Heavy 35-inch or 37-inch tires require significantly more torque to get moving. Because your Bronco's computer still thinks it has stock 32-inch tires, the 10-speed transmission is shifting way too early, bogging the engine down. A premium tuner fixes this by recalibrating the tire size in the computer (restoring proper shift points) while adding the extra boost and torque needed to easily turn that heavy rubber.
Will tuning my Bronco fix the annoying Auto Start-Stop feature?
Yes.
Both the COBB Accessport and the Ford Performance ProCal allow you to completely disable the Auto Start-Stop system during the flashing process. Your engine will no longer shut off at red lights, and your A/C will stay blowing cold.
Do I have to leave the Ford Performance ProCal plugged in?
No.
The ProCal 4 is a "Flash Tuner." You plug it into your Bronco's OBDII port, flash the new upgraded engine and transmission files into the vehicle's computer, and then unplug it. The new tune is permanently saved on the truck until you decide to revert it back to stock. (The COBB Accessport, on the other hand, can be left plugged in if you want to use its screen as a live gauge cluster).
