The $100 Upgrade: Why Your F350 Needs a Rubber Bed Mat
Share
The 2023–2025 Ford F350 is built tough, but the physics of an empty truck bed are universally annoying. You throw a cooler in the back, drive to the campsite, and open the tailgate—only to find the cooler has slid all the way to the front of the cab.
Now you have to crawl on your hands and knees across the rough spray-in liner to retrieve it.
This is why the Heavy Duty Rubber Bed Mat remains one of the best-selling accessories for Super Duty owners. It solves the "Cargo Slide" problem instantly.
But for the modern F350, it serves a second, more critical purpose: Dent Protection. The F350 uses an aluminum alloy bed. While strong, aluminum is more prone to deep dents from sharp impacts (like dropping a heavy 5th wheel hitch head) than steel. A 3/8-inch thick rubber mat acts as armor, absorbing that shock.
In this guide, we compare the benefits of Mats vs. Liners and show you how to trim a mat to fit your Gooseneck or 5th Wheel prep package.

Frequently Asked Questions (Bed Mats)
Will this fly out of my truck?
No. These are heavy-weight rubber mats, typically weighing 30-50 lbs. Air pressure pushes them down at highway speeds. They will not lift out, even with the tailgate down.
Why put a mat over my spray-in liner?
Comfort and Dents. A spray-in liner is like sandpaper—it destroys your knees if you crawl in to get gear. A rubber mat is cushioned and comfortable. More importantly, the aluminum bed of the F350 can dent if a heavy object is dropped; the rubber mat prevents this damage.
Does it smell like tires?
Briefly. Like any new rubber product, there may be a "new tire" smell for the first few days, especially in the sun. This dissipates quickly.
