The Faded Pink Trap: Why Your GMC Badges Look Terrible and How to Fix Them
Share
You love your 2014–2018 GMC Sierra 1500. It runs flawlessly, you wash it every weekend, and the paint shines like a mirror. But every time you walk up to the front grille, you cringe.
When you bought the truck, the massive GMC letters were an aggressive, vibrant ruby red. But after a few years of baking in the summer sun, the cheap factory plastic has violently surrendered to the UV rays. Those aggressive letters have faded into a chalky, embarrassing, washed-out pink that drags down the aesthetic of your entire heavy-duty truck.
You just fell directly into the Faded Pink Trap.
This is a notorious, unavoidable reality for the K2XX GMC platform. The factory plastic simply cannot handle long-term UV exposure. Many owners try to fix this by buying cheap, $15 thin black plastic "overlays" online and sticking them directly over the pink letters. Within a month, water gets trapped behind the tape, the cheap plastic warps in the heat, and they fly off on the highway.
You don't need a cheap band-aid; you need solid metal.
In this guide, we explain exactly how elite machining engineers at AMI Styling construct complete, drop-in replacement emblems milled from solid blocks of 6061-T6 billet aluminum. We'll show you the "Fishing Line Trick" to safely remove your old tailgate badge without scratching your paint, why Putco stainless steel is the only way to delete your chrome, and how to permanently cure the pink fade.

Frequently Asked Questions (Trim & Badges)
How do I safely remove the factory GMC badge from my tailgate?
Use a heat gun and heavy-duty fishing line.
Never use a metal screwdriver or a plastic pry tool against your truck's paint; you will permanently dent or scratch the tailgate. Instead, gently warm the factory badge with a heat gun to soften the adhesive backing. Then, take a piece of thick fishing line, slide it behind the badge, and "saw" back and forth through the foam tape until the badge falls off.
How do I get the leftover sticky foam off my paint?
Use an eraser wheel or dedicated adhesive remover.
Once you cut the badge off with fishing line, there will be a thick layer of sticky foam left on your tailgate. You can use a citrus-based adhesive remover (like Goo Gone Automotive) and a microfiber towel to slowly rub it away, or use a specialized rubber "Eraser Wheel" attached to a power drill to safely spin the adhesive right off the clear coat.
Will the matte black finish on billet emblems chip from rock strikes?
No, they are heavily powder-coated.
Unlike cheap plastic badges that are just sprayed with thin black paint, premium AMI Styling billet aluminum emblems are finished with an industrial-grade powder coat. This process bakes the color directly into the metal, making it incredibly resistant to highway rock chips, UV fading, and corrosive road salt.
