The Global B Encryption Trap: How to Safely "Tune" Your 2022+ Silverado
Share
You just picked up a gorgeous, brand-new Chevy Silverado 1500.
To make it your own, you immediately install a 4-inch lift kit, bolt on massive 35-inch mud tires, and chop off the restrictive factory muffler.
The truck looks and sounds like an absolute beast. But the first time you try to merge onto the highway, you realize something is terribly wrong. The massive, heavy tires make the truck feel incredibly sluggish, the gas pedal feels like stepping on a wet sponge, the speedometer is completely inaccurate, and the annoying V4 cylinder deactivation is making your new exhaust drone uncontrollably.
"No problem," you think. "I'll just buy a $400 flash tuner, plug it into the dashboard, recalibrate the tires, turn off the V4 mode, and add 30 horsepower."
Stop. You just ran headfirst into the Global B Encryption Trap.
Starting on the 2022.5 refreshed models, GM completely locked down the electronic brains of their trucks using military-grade encryption. If you try to force a traditional flash tune onto one of these new ECUs, the truck will completely lock you out.
You cannot traditionally flash-tune a new Silverado in your driveway anymore. But you don't have to suffer with a slow, drone-filled truck.
In this guide, we explain exactly how premium engineers at Edge Products and Pedal Commander have created brilliant, plug-and-play inline modules that safely bypass the encryption. We'll show you how to instantly fix your speedometer, disable the DFM system, and eliminate your throttle lag—all without leaving a single trace on your factory computer.

Frequently Asked Questions (Tuners & Programmers)
Will installing a tuner instantly void my Silverado's factory powertrain warranty?
It depends entirely on the device you choose.
- Flash Tuners (SCT/Bully Dog): These actually rewrite the code on your engine computer. Even if you flash the truck back to "Stock" before visiting the dealer, GM diagnostic tools can see that the computer was previously rewritten. This can flag your warranty if you experience a major powertrain failure.
- Inline Modules & Throttle Controllers (Edge Pulsar LT / Pedal Commander): These devices simply intercept and modify electrical signals after they leave the computer. They never rewrite the ECU. If you unplug them before a dealer visit, they leave absolutely no trace.
Can I tune my 2024 Silverado to add 50 horsepower?
Not easily, because of GM's encryption.
As mentioned, 2022.5+ Silverados feature Global B encryption. You cannot just plug a $400 handheld tuner into the dash and add 50 horsepower anymore. If you want raw power, you have to physically remove the engine computer and mail it to a specialized unlocking facility for thousands of dollars.
The Workaround: This is exactly why the Edge Pulsar LT and Pedal Commander are our top sellers. They give you the feeling of a massively faster truck by improving throttle response and fixing shift points, without triggering the GM encryption locks.
If I lift my truck and add 35-inch tires, do I really need a tuning device?
Yes, or your speedometer and transmission will be completely wrong.
When you install larger tires, they cover more ground per revolution. Your truck doesn't know this. Your speedometer will read 65 MPH when you are actually doing 73 MPH, and your transmission will shift at the wrong RPMs, making the truck feel incredibly sluggish. An Edge Pulsar LT allows you to input your exact new tire size, instantly correcting the speedometer and fixing your shift points.
