Can I drive with the cover folded up?
Yes.
All the covers in this collection allow you to drive with the panels folded.
- 2/3 Open: You can fold the panels twice and strap them down to drive with most of the bed open.
- Fully Open: You can fold the cover all the way up against the rear window and lock it in place with prop rods. This gives you 100% bed access for hauling dirt bikes or furniture.
Do these covers leak?
They are "Weather Resistant," not Waterproof.
Flush-mount covers (like the BAKFlip) sit inside the bed rails. They use rubber seals and Drain Tubes to channel water out of the bed. In a heavy car wash or torrential rain, you may get a few drops near the tailgate, but your cargo will generally stay dry.
- Note: Extang Solid Fold covers sit on top of the bed rails and often seal slightly better against standing water, but they don't look as sleek.
Why does the Multifunction Tailgate (MFT) need a special cover?
The 60/40 split tailgate doors swing out horizontally. The hinge mechanism for these doors occupies space near the bed rail corner. Standard tonneau cover rails hang over this area and block the door from opening. MFT-specific covers have modified rails that provide the necessary clearance for the barn doors to swing freely.
