Will a 4-inch lift kit ruin my Ram 2500's towing capacity?
Not if you buy a premium kit designed to retain the factory payload.
Cheap lift kits use soft, generic rear coil springs that instantly squat under the weight of a heavy trailer. However, because the truck sits 4 inches higher, you will need to purchase a heavy-duty adjustable drop hitch to keep your 5th-wheel or bumper-pull trailer level.
Why does my steering feel loose after installing a cheap 3-inch lift?
Your caster angle is completely destroyed.
As mentioned in the fitment guide, lifting a solid-axle truck without replacing the radius arms or using drop brackets pulls the top of the axle backward. This eliminates the "return-to-center" force of your steering wheel. The wheel feels incredibly light and sloppy, requiring you to constantly saw at the wheel just to keep the truck in its lane. You must correct the caster.
Can I run my factory 20-inch wheels with a 4-inch lift kit?
Usually no, they will rub the new suspension components.
Factory Ram wheels have a very high positive offset, tucking the wheels deep inside the fenders. When you install massive aftermarket radius arms and a track bar drop bracket, the factory wheels will violently rub the new steel components when you turn. You generally must upgrade to aftermarket wheels with a backspacing of 5 inches or less (negative offset) to clear the upgraded suspension.
