The "Raptor Light" Mod: How to Add Grille Marker Lights to Your RAM 1500

You see them everywhere.

Three distinctive amber lights glowing fiercely in the center of a truck's upper grille.

Originally a legally required safety feature on the ultra-wide Ford Raptor, the "Pre-Runner" marker light look has been completely adopted by the entire truck community. And honestly? It looks absolutely incredible on the massive front end of the 2019–2026 RAM 1500.

But you cannot just buy any generic "3-Light Kit" off the internet and expect it to fit.

The 5th Gen RAM 1500 features a massive variety of distinct grille designs:

  • The Rebel / TRX: A wide, aggressive honeycomb mesh.
  • The Big Horn / Laramie: Traditional horizontal chrome or black slats.
  • The Limited: An intricate, luxury curved mesh.

If you accidentally buy a light kit designed for a Rebel, it absolutely won't clip onto a Big Horn. The physical spacing and mounting brackets are completely different.

In this guide, we break down exactly which premium grille light kits from brands like ORACLE Lighting fit which specific RAM trim level, and show you exactly how to tap into your factory parking light harness so they turn on automatically with your headlights.

Frequently Asked Questions (Accent Lighting)

How do I wire rock lights if my RAM doesn't have the factory Aux Switches?

Use a Bluetooth Controller.

Premium rock light kits (like those from ORACLE or Diode Dynamics) feature an optional Bluetooth module. You wire this module directly to the battery terminals under the hood. You then control the lights (Power, Color, Strobe, Brightness) entirely from an app on your smartphone. There is absolutely no need to drill holes through your firewall to run physical switches into the cab.

Are "Raptor-Style" grille lights actually legal?

Yes, as long as they are Amber.

DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations allow for Amber forward-facing marker lights (which is exactly why the wide-body Ford Raptor has them from the factory). As long as your aftermarket grille lights are Amber (or White in some specific states), they are 100% legal to run while driving. Blue or Red forward-facing lights are highly illegal on public roads.

Will leaving my rock lights hooked up drain my truck's battery?

Not if wired correctly.

LEDs draw incredibly little power. However, if you wire them directly to the battery without a relay and leave them turned on for 3 days straight, they will eventually kill the battery.

The Fix: Always wire the light controller to a "Key-On" fuse, or use a premium system featuring a low-voltage cutoff. If you utilize the factory RAM Aux Switches, the truck automatically cuts power to the lights when the ignition is turned off.
