You want to upgrade the bumper on your 2009–2018 RAM 1500.

You find a great looking steel bumper online, click buy, and start turning wrenches.
But then you realize: Your truck has parking sensors.
And your new bumper... doesn't have holes.
Now you have a dashboard that screams at you every time you put the truck in reverse.
This is the most common mistake RAM owners make. The Laramie, Longhorn, and Limited trims are packed with sensors that don't play nice with aftermarket steel.

Will my parking sensors work with a steel bumper?
Ideally, yes. If you buy a "Sensor Ready" bumper, it has holes cut for them. However, steel is thicker than the factory plastic bumper. Sometimes the sensors require special bezels or tuning to work perfectly without giving false positives. Be prepared to potentially extend the wiring harness, as the sensor locations often move further out.
Can I install a winch later?
Only if the bumper is "Winch Ready." Not all steel bumpers have a winch tray. You must select a bumper specifically designed with a standard 10x4.5" winch bolt pattern. If you buy a non-winch bumper, you cannot easily add one later without cutting and welding.
Do I need to upgrade my suspension?
We recommend it. Adding 150-200 lbs to the very front of a RAM 1500 (which uses coilover struts) will cause the nose to dive, especially when braking. A set of Bilstein 5100 Adjustable Struts set to +1.0" or +2.1" is the perfect way to compensate for the weight and keep the truck level.
