Vinyl vs. Canvas: Why the TruXedo Pro X15 is the Ultimate Silverado Upgrade
Share
For over a decade, the TruXedo Lo Pro was the undisputed, heavyweight king of soft roll-up tonneau covers.
It was low profile, incredibly durable, and legendary for its reliability.
But recently, a new premium challenger from within the exact same company has taken the top spot for Chevy Silverado 1500 owners: the TruXedo Pro X15.
The main difference isn't the mechanical function; it is entirely about the Finish.
- The Lo Pro: Uses a traditional, heavy-duty leather-grain vinyl. It is exceptionally tough, but it has that slightly shiny "plastic" look that some truck owners want to move away from.
- The Pro X15: Uses a premium Matte Woven Fabric. It looks and feels exactly like the convertible top material on a high-end luxury sports car. It aggressively absorbs light instead of reflecting it, giving your truck bed a deeper, stealthier, and far more modern flush-mount look.
In this guide, we compare these two massive best-sellers side-by-side to see if the Pro X15 is truly worth the extra cash, and exactly which one holds up better to the daily abuses of a rugged work site.

Frequently Asked Questions (Soft Roll-Up Covers)
Do standard TruXedo covers easily fit the CarbonPro composite bed?
Mostly NO.
Because the CarbonPro bed walls are constructed from a thick composite material completely lacking the traditional inner metal lip, standard "clamp-on" rails used by most roll-up covers will slide right off under tension.
The Fix: You absolutely must look for a highly specific part number explicitly labeled "For CarbonPro" or purchase the required mounting adapter kit.
Is the matte "Pro X15" woven fabric harder to keep clean than shiny vinyl?
Not really.
The TruXedo Pro X15 utilizes a premium woven "convertible top" material. While it can physically hold onto fine dust a little more than smooth, slippery vinyl, it is incredibly easy to maintain. You can simply wash it with a soft bristle brush and standard car wash soap right alongside the rest of your truck. It is extremely UV fade-resistant and doesn't get dangerously hot to the touch in the summer sun like black vinyl.
Will a soft cover sag or stretch under heavy winter snow?
Not if it has an automatic tensioner.
Premium covers (like the TruXedo Lo Pro and Pro X15) feature patented "Automatic Tension Control" spring plungers hidden in the rails. As the vinyl naturally expands in the heat or shrinks in freezing winter temperatures, these heavy-duty springs automatically pull the fabric drum-tight to prevent sagging or water pooling.
