Whipple vs. Roush: The Battle for the 2021+ F150 5.0L
Share
The 2021–2025 Ford F-150 with the 5.0L Coyote V8 is a great truck. It makes 400 horsepower, sounds good, and is reliable.
But in a world of 702HP Ram TRXs and 700HP Raptor Rs, "great" sometimes feels... slow.
You don't need to spend $110,000 on a factory super-truck to get that level of performance. You just need a credit card and a weekend in the shop. The aftermarket forced induction market has cracked the code on the 14th Gen F-150, despite the tricky encrypted ECUs and cylinder deactivation tech.
The two heavyweights in the ring are Whipple (famous for their massive 3.0L Twin-Screw blowers) and Roush (Ford’s official partner using TVS Roots technology).
Both will void your rear tires. Both cost about the same. But they deliver power in very different ways. In this guide, we compare the whine, the warranty, and the horsepower potential of these two giants.

Frequently Asked Questions (Superchargers)
How does this affect my gas mileage?
If you stay out of the boost, mileage is surprisingly unaffected. The bypass valves allow the engine to operate normally while cruising. However, because you now have 700+ HP, you will step on the gas more often. Realistically, expect to drop 2-4 MPG on average.
Can I install this in my driveway?
Not recommended. A modern supercharger install involves removing the front bumper, modifying the cooling system, pinning the crankshaft, and handling high-pressure fuel lines. Plus, to keep the warranty (on Roush/Whipple kits), it usually must be installed by an ASE-certified mechanic or a Ford dealer.
What about the 2021+ Cylinder Deactivation?
Ford introduced cylinder deactivation on the 5.0L in 2021 to save fuel. The supercharger calibration typically disables this feature to ensure smooth power delivery and engine safety. You won't miss it.
